Spiritual Climate
Slovakia is culturally Catholic, with a meaningful Lutheran presence and less than two percent evangelical believers. A small number of born-again Catholics are part of the spiritual landscape, but many people remain shaped by tradition, history, and the lingering effects of communism. The Roma population has often been mistreated and marginalized, creating a need for Gospel witness marked by humility, patience, and love.

Slovakia sits in the heart of Europe, with Bratislava located near Vienna, Budapest, and Prague. The country is mountainous, beautiful, and sometimes described as a European “diamond in the rough.” Slovaks can seem reserved at first, but they are often warm and welcoming once trust is built.
GEM ministries in Slovakia include using English and sports to build relationships toward a future church plant in Bratislava, as well as church planting with a Baptist church in Lučenec. There is openness to partnership with other denominations and para-church organizations.
