Our Story
Luke and Amanda have served with Greater Europe Mission in Berlin, Germany, since 2014. Together with their two children, Lucy and Max, they are working to see disciples of Jesus formed, leaders equipped, and new expressions of Christian community take root in one of Europe’s most secular cities.
Luke currently provides leadership for GEM workers serving across northeastern Germany. He helps GEM workers and local Christian leaders grow in their ability to make disciples, develop others, and participate in the growth of the Church. He is also helping develop new pathways for equipping leaders across Germany and the wider German-speaking region.
Luke and Amanda also help lead a neighborhood café, coworking space, and community venue in Berlin. It creates a welcoming place where people can work, gather, build relationships, explore meaningful questions, and encounter Christian hospitality. Through everyday presence, events, workshops, and spiritual conversations, they hope to create space for people who may be curious about faith but unlikely to enter a traditional church setting.
Amanda serves with GEM Germany’s LanguaCulture program, helping newly arrived GEM workers establish a strong foundation for life and ministry in Germany. Drawing on her background as a teacher and a curriculum she developed, she supports them as they learn German, understand the culture, and adjust to cross-cultural life.
Where We Work
Berlin is Germany’s capital and home to nearly four million people. Located in the heart of the former East Germany, it has been shaped by decades of secularism and is situated within one of the least religious regions of the world. While precise figures are difficult to establish, only a small percentage of Berlin’s population personally follows Jesus.
Berlin is also one of Europe’s most international cities. People from more than 180 countries call it home, and migration continues to shape its neighborhoods, cultures, and communities. Its influence extends far beyond Germany through politics, education, business, art, media, and culture.
This combination of deep secularism, international diversity, and global influence makes Berlin both a challenging and strategically important place for ministry. Luke and Amanda want to help cultivate forms of Christian presence and community that are relational, locally rooted, and accessible to people who may be spiritually curious but disconnected from the Church.
