My Story
A few weeks after I graduated from Corban last May, I flew to France to join a CRU missions team reaching out to international students in Paris. Before I left, I prayed that if the Lord were to call me back to Europe that He would open my eyes during that time to how He is building His Kingdom there. At the end of my trip, I was struck by the opportunities for ministry within Europe and the need for more kingdom workers there. I began to wonder: What could the Lord do in and through me if I committed a year to being a part of what He’s doing to draw people to Himself in Europe? As I have been praying about whether or not to take this step of trust in Jesus, I have sensed the Lord tell me that obedience to Him looks like just saying yes—and trusting that He will open and shut the doors that He desires for me in going overseas. After several months of prayer and discernment, I am excited to share that, Lord willing, I will be heading to Birmingham, England this September to join Greater Europe Mission (GEM) in the work they are doing to serve refugees and equip and build the local church.
Where I Will Serve
Ever since I first visited the UK during my senior year of high school, I have dreamt about living and doing ministry there. Despite its Christian history, England (like many other European countries) has become increasingly secular. As Christianity has dwindled among the British people, religions such as Islam, Hinduism, and New Ageism have entered the religious scene with the surplus of refugees and immigrants coming to the UK. Birmingham is the second largest city in the UK and has a population that is over 51% made up of ethnic minorities, many of them coming from Muslim backgrounds. In addition to partnering with a local church, I will be joining a ministry within GEM that hosts English classes as a way of reaching this population. Teaching English to refugees and immigrants has been a long-time dream of mine, and I am so excited to be a witness to what the Lord is doing in the city of Birmingham.
