Our Story

It’s easy to imagine what missionaries might be doing oversees while we support them from afar—but are our imaginations accurate?

Do our own cultural norms skew our perspective of how workers share the Gospel in Europe?

Do we consider the emotional struggles that missionaries often face?

Do we understand the religious landscape these workers are living in?

Do we even know how these missionaries are serving?

All these questions will remain unanswered unless someone addresses them; that’s where GEM Storyteller Leanne Monge Barrera comes in. Through GEM Canada’s online presence—social media and blog posts specifically—she has the opportunity to tell the stories and share the facts that answer questions much like the ones mentioned above.

Living in Canada with her family, she ensures her stories are accurate and up to date by reaching out to the global workers themselves and hearing first-hand how God is moving throughout the spiritually thirsty continent. With GEM’s belief that workers should use their giftings and meet the needs of their community, there’s no limit to the stories to be told! Global workers are church planting, discipling in gyms, encouraging others through art and music, making an impact in sports ministries and teaching English, praying with others over a cup of coffee, and so much more!

It is truly exciting to see God working through His people in Europe, and Leanne’s goal is to excite readers, especially those in North America, with the light that is being shone in some of the darkest places. Though financial support is necessary for each worker to continue their work, there’s nothing quite like the enthusiastic emotional and prayerful support from a supporter who is walking alongside these workers from afar.

If you are excited about the ministry of storytelling and would like to support Leanne in her work with GEM, please consider supporting her prayerfully and/or financially.

“We will not hide them from our children but will tell the next generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders that he has done.” Psalm 78:4
