Our Story
Lynn first went to France in 1977 on a summer missions trip while he was attending Letourneau College. Upon his graduation in 1979 he felt that France was where he could use his talent and was where God wanted him to stay. Rose, who is originally from the Netherlands, grew up on the mission field in Surinam. She and Lynn met at a Bible School, north of Paris and were married on September 14th 1985. They have been blessed with five children,
Miranda (12-18-87) Miriam (10-23-89) Morey (8-18-92) Merrick (6-29-94) Malon (10-23-96)
Christian Camping is what they are involved in. They feel it to be a valid tool to reach young people and adults who would normally never set foot inside a church. “Seeing individuals’ lives changed, confirms for us, that the ministry of Camp of the Peaks is an important way of reaching the Peoples of France.”
Where We Work
The country of France is a rich blend of people from all over the world. Because of their open door policy for refugees France has quickly become a melting pot for many types of cultures. The second largest foreign population is North Africans and Algerians. French is the main language but Arabic is also spoken everywhere. The French are very closed to the Gospel despite their “religious” background. Almost 90% of the people have been baptized as infants in the Roman Catholic Church but have never attended as adults. The second largest religion in France is Muslim. 85% of the people consider themselves Agnostic.
Camp of the Peaks is located in the French Alps, about 45 minutes east of Grenoble and 2 1/2 hours from Geneva. The Camp is ideally located between major ski resorts, including Deux Alpes and Alpes d’Huez (famous for the 21 switch back assent in the Tour de France bike race). A National Park, adjacent to the Camp, allows them to take advantage of sports including rafting, hiking, horseback riding, hang- gliding and mountain biking. The Camp used to be a small village. Much work, mostly by volunteers, has been done since the purchase of the more that 300-year-old buildings in 1969.The old, yet comfortable setting, has become a haven of rest for people to get away and find a relationship with God.
