My Story
My name is Rachel Jaeger, and I graduated from the University of Northwestern–St. Paul this December. I finished with a degree in English: Writing, and I have been working these past few months as an Editorial Assistant at a local publishing house. I’ve been learning so much about how to live intentionally and about who I am, both in Christ and in this world.
For several years now, God has put it on my heart to serve overseas. This desire increased even more after spending a summer in Italy two years ago and seeing their need for young Christians there. I have always loved working with people of different cultures. This world is such a big place, and I have so much to learn. I want to help people with the skills I’ve developed through my years at college, and I want to expand my worldview to encompass a broader understanding of the world and the people who live in it.
As such, I have accepted a year-long position working with Greater Europe Mission, an organization that serves missionaries in Europe. GEM’s passion for the people of Europe, their mission to support the local Christians, and their commitment to providing opportunities for post-grads to serve indicated to me that their organization was the perfect next step.
Starting this coming September, I will be serving in the West Midlands of England, home to Birmingham, the second most populated city in England. Just like Italy, England is so cold to the gospel. In the past ten years, the percentage of Christians has decreased 13%, and that number is even higher for young people. Since coming to college, I have been attending Vertical Church in St. Paul, which is home to hundreds of young adults who are on fire for Christ. I desire to bring this flame to Europe and spread it to the emerging adults who live there. I will mainly be using my writing and communications skills to create support materials for a youth organization, as well as serving and mentoring their students.
Since this is a volunteer position, I am currently looking for partners to support me in this incredible opportunity. I need to raise $28,000 for living expenses and general costs for my year abroad. This is a lot of money, but I trust that God will help me find the right partners who can help me through this process. All your prayers will be so appreciated as I take this leap of faith into the next stage of my life.
Thank you, and God bless!
Where I Work
I will be working with Urban Devotion Birmingham, a youth ministry organization committed to serving underprivileged youth in the Birmingham area. They work in many different areas, from hosting after school events to mentoring in schools to leading prayer walks in the local area. I will be working both as a youth mentor and leader and as a communications and writing assistant. I'm so excited to begin working in this area!
