About

For several years the Evangelical Church in the community of Agia Paraskevi, Greece, has been ministering to families with children on the autism spectrum. Greece has many services to help families with children on the spectrum, but the only living facilities are for low-functioning children, with no residence facilities for autistic adults. This project will bring a lasting contribution for those with autism, by providing a living space and a future.

All parents of autistic children are concerned with one very pressing issue: “After I’m gone, who will care for my son or daughter?” This residence offers a long-term solution for a very pressing need.

Initially the project is to raise about $300,000 to purchase a single residence of 1000 to 2000 square feet, four bedrooms or possibly five.Such properties are available, and would house seven to ten residents.Government and European funds will then be available for operational costs and staff, after we purchase the initial property. With this precedent, there are all kinds of possibilities for expansion of this ministry.

The church has already served autistic families in various ways; by sponsoring birthday parties, having art displays for special needs kids, hosting a theatrical group, and has a lending library of many books on autism. They also subtitled the movie “In A Different Key” in Greek, which gives a good introduction to autism’s history and present state and helps raise awareness of the situation. The church also facilitated study groups that met daily at the Greek Bible College to learn and review their school lessons.

The Autism Residence Project will bring great relief to many families. Your contribution will be a way of touching them in a very special area, reflecting God’s love and care.
