Forrest and Kristina Hendrix
Serving in Sweden
As a young Christian I (Forrest) really enjoyed evangelism. The guy who discipled me had the gift of evangelism and later I realized that I did too. Although I saw my high school as a mission field, I never really considered using the gift the Lord had given me anywhere else in the world. After high school, I attended the Torch Bearer Bible Institute in England where Kristina and I met. Kristina had a heart for missions and also had a desire to see the kingdom of God grow in her own country. After we married, we first lived in Sweden and Kristina finished her nursing degree. From there we attended the Greater Europe Mission’s Bible Institute in Sweden and I (Forrest) continued on to seminary and studied for a masters in Biblical Studies. After my studies were finished we were asked by Greater Europe Mission to return to Europe and serve in Sweden. The call to work in Sweden specifically has over the years grown to a desire to minister in Europe in general. We have worked with GEM for 29 years, first at a Bible Institute, which included youth work and camp ministry, and later as church planters in both Sweden and Latvia.
Where We Work
At present we live in Stockholm Sweden in a subway community. We are attemping a totally different method of church planting this time around. Instead of having the goal of just one church planted over the next couple of years we have chosen to spread out our resouces and time with the hope of establishing a number of small reproducing house churches in 10 subway communities near our house. By being present in these communities, praying and asking God to lead us to people there that are interested in learning more about Jesus, and sharing our testimony and the good news about His Kingdom with the people we meet, we believe that we could see a movement started. We are having opportunities to share our faith with many nationalities. Stockholm has become a multicultural city and where we live there are many immigrants from the Middle East, South America, Africa, and Eastern Europe.
