Berlin Focus City Team Member
Few cities in the modern world have had to reinvent themselves in the same way as Berlin. In just the last 120 years, Berlin has been all but destroyed in multiple wars, pillaged in the aftermath, split up by foreign powers, painstakingly rebuilt, and finally reunited. Today, 3.7 million people live in Berlin, the most populous city proper in the EU, and a total of 4.7 million reside in the greater urban area. As the so-called atheist capital of Europe, circa 3.6 million people (99%) in Berlin do not follow Jesus. In parts of former East Berlin, the percentage drops from 1% to .1%. After multiple generations of imposed atheism, approximately 80% of residents in former East Germany are effectively unevangelized9 and have never had contact with a follower of Jesus.
At the heart of the Berlin Focus City vision is a rich love for the city and a determination to see its people meet Jesus. As a GEM team, we are here to multiply disciples and grow Christ’s church.
With a focus on discipleship and evangelism as your full-time job, this could look like going out into the harvest to pray for people and share the Gospel, leading Discovery Bible Studies, and training local believers in reproducible ways to share their faith and make disciples. Does that strike a chord with you? Considering coming and being a part of what God is doing here. Come to Berlin and live the life of a Jesus-follower: being discipled and making disciples.
