Jeff and Alma Whitfield
Serving the refugees in Athens
In 2016 Jeff and Alma began feeling the call to overseas missions. Both had previous experience in missions, and after some time in Richmond, VA they knew God was telling them it was time to GO. They started to hear about the refugee crisis and served on two short-term trips in Athens, Greece. During this time God confirmed His calling on their life together. They have a 5 year-old daughter and a new baby due July '21. They'll pack up with their family dog, Maisy, and cat, Little Jo, and head to Greece to serve as a family. The verse that drives their ministry vision is this one: When Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." -Matt. 9:35-38
Where We Work
Jeff and Alma are trained counselors and are called to use their training and gifting to facilitate emotional and ultimately spiritual healing through Jesus Christ. They will come alongside the existing GEM team in Greece to lead Muslim refugees to Christ; discipling new believers and starting New Testament Churches that will reproduce to spread the Gospel to a formerly closed Muslim world.
