Monaco, best known for gambling and as a tax haven, is the world’s second smallest country and has the highest population density. The people of Monaco have experienced great prosperity in the past several decades, and because of that, many seek to fill the void in their hearts with materialism. About 90 percent of those who live in this French-speaking country are affiliated with the Roman Catholic church. The majority of Monaco’s 32,600 inhabitants are expatriates, and about one percent of them are evangelical believers. Yet among the Monegasque, who make up 16 percent of the population, just a fraction follow Christ.

Christian radio is broadcast from Monaco in multiple European languages as well as in some North African languages. Missionaries involved in this work are well respected and have a witness among local people since Christian programs are broadcast in Monaco as well. Some of these missionaries have also started an evangelical church that primarily serves the large expatriate community. Many expatriates have begun following Christ as a result of this congregation’s witness and that of two other churches. A number of the Monegasque people now follow Christ as well; several years ago, none were believers.
Because Monaco is a vacation spot for people from around the world, it is a key place to touch the world with God’s love. Most of the people whom one will encounter in this wealthy nation likely have great influence and know large networks of people. Believers who reach out to expatriates and visitors in Monaco can plant seeds of the Gospel by modeling a life transformed by Christ. As new believers share their hope in Jesus with people in their home countries, there could be a movement for Christ in Europe. Is God calling you to partner with evangelicals in Monaco or to pioneer a ministry?
  1. Pray that believers in Monaco will live out their faith so their friends and neighbors will long for a relationship with Christ.
  2. Pray that God will call believers to serve as missionaries in Monaco and creatively reach out to the people.
  3. Pray that God’s Spirit will spark revival in the Christian churches of Monaco.
  4. Pray that people who have misconceptions about following Christ will become open to hearing and responding to the Gospel message.
