I Have Prayed
Georgia
Georgia Capital: T'bilisi
Border Countries: Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey
By the time of Abraham, civilization was flourishing in what would become the modern, Eastern European state of Georgia. The nation officially adopted Christianity in 330 A.D., and the Bible was available there in 400 A.D. Centuries of wars followed and nearly resulted in the end of the Georgian people. Communists invaded in 1921, reigning until 1990 when the nation declared independence from the Soviet Union. Today, most Georgians associate with the Orthodox Church, though the majority do not follow Christ. Many believe that being born in Georgia guarantees salvation, though they follow the philosophy of materialism. Less than one percent of Georgians know Christ.

In the past three years more than a dozen evangelical groups have been started in Georgia. Evangelical congregations in the eastern part of the country have increased by over 200 people. Georgians are coming to know the Savior due to the witness of small fellowship groups since laypeople have begun to share their faith. The "JESUS" film has also been an effective tool to bring people to Christ. In addition, a new focus on ministering to youth has resulted in many young people joining youth groups and hearing the Good News. God is on the move in Georgia!
Currently, several ministries have been used for effective outreach: the "JESUS" film, small evangelistic fellowship groups, youth groups for teens, a camp ministry that caters to young people, and Sunday Schools for children. North Americans could come alongside Georgian believers to help strengthen these ministries and follow up with contacts. Georgians also need encouragement from other Christians to maintain their faith in light of immense social pressure to recant their belief in Jesus Christ. When Georgian Christ-followers fully understand that God has prepared His work for them to do, revival will come to Georgia.
  1. Pray that the new movements among youth and children will flourish and draw many families to Christ.
  2. Ask God to call more workersboth foreign missionaries and Georgiansto actively share their faith.
