In Norway, many state-church pastors focus on Christ and His Wordunlike leaders of government sponsored churches in other European countries. And while evangelical church attendance had been declining, it is now gradually increasing. For many years, evangelical congregations and missions organizations have sent missionaries to various countries. One, the Norwegian Missionary Society, currently has 100 missionaries on four continents. In Norway itself, the Norwegian Baptist Union is active and has recently planted 17 churches, some among immigrants. Among Norwegians, friendship evangelism has been the primary way in which people experience Christ and enter into a relationship with Him.
The Norwegian Baptist Union has requested help from missionaries to serve in discipleship, leadership training, evangelism, and church planting among both Norwegians and immigrants. One key place to plant churches is in suburbs among everyone from businesspeople to the poverty-stricken. Cities are the place to minister to immigrantsmany of them refugeeswho have come to Norway over the past several decades and now make up almost two percent of Norway's population. A large percentage are Muslims from Pakistan and Iraq who live in ghettos. Outreach among people in these communities could produce great fruit for God's Kingdom.
