I Have Prayed
Denmark
Denmark Capital: Copenhagen
Border Countries: Germany
While Danes are known for their Viking invasions, the Kingdom of Denmark was united and officially "Christianized" in 965 A.D. In 1536, Danish leaders declared the country Lutheran. Yet Danes are not considered religious people, and it's common for many churches to have just a handful of attendees on a given Sunday. Many Danes believe their baptism, usually as an infant or child, guarantees their entrance into heaven. According to one study, the country has the third-highest proportion of atheists and agnostics in the world. Just seven percent of Danes have a relationship with Jesus.

Danish people display a hospitable and optimistic spirit. Because of that, even though most Danes are secular, they are open to the Gospel message and relational evangelism. Some Danish believers have recognized the need to reach out to all peoples with the Gospel and are planting churches among Danes as well as among immigrants. This is significant because it runs counter to the Danish nationalism that caused a furor with a cartoon mocking Islam. Pastors from several churches meet weekly to seek God's leading for their congregations and for reaching non-Christians. They desire to see God's work accomplished and are taking bold steps in the name of Christ.
Because many Danes know little of biblical Christianity, North American believers could make an impact by doing evangelism and discipleship. Christians are also needed to partner with local believers to help them plant churches. Denmark is home to many Islamic immigrants, and ministry among them is both strategic and sorely needed since few nationals are willing to minister to them. Whether you have a heart to minister among the growing immigrant population or among the Danish nationals, the door is open to make your life count for Christ in Denmark.
  1. Pray that God would create a hunger among Danes for Jesus and His Word and that Danes would see the difference between an active relationship with their Savior and empty, traditional religion.
  2. Pray that many more people in Denmark will see and respond to the opportunity to share the Gospel with this generation.
